ZDay 5: The party took a few days to let Mel upgrade her tow truck with a battering ram and window armor. They also sent out a team (Ullah, Jason Harkin, and Dr Welks) to salvage for supplies. They first looted a gun shop which had already been raided, but managed to get a few rifles, pistols, bows, crossbows, silencers, scopes, and ammo. The team then went to a gas station for food and fuel but when they saw a zombie behind the counter running the cash register and wiping down the counter they fled. They last place looted was the “Piggly Wiggly” a local grocery store where they collected 2 weeks worth of food per person.
Items of note: while the elementary school across the street had been set up as a FEMA disaster center including tents in the parking lot and playground, there was no signs of habitation or activity. Definite zombie activity in the area as well as looters.
On Z day 7 the team drove out of Powder Springs on Highway 278/Route 6. they encounter some stopped cars along the way but were able to move or go off road. They passed through one location with a sign on the side of the road directing them off the road to a trader, but they decided it may be an ambush so moved on. On the other side of Dallas, GA they stopped when they heard an explosion North of the road. The team (Ullah, Jason harkin, and DR. Welks) investigated as discovered a man chained to a post in the middle of a mine field. One mine had gone off turning a sloucher into a crawler which had recovered enough to continue to move towards the man. The crawler ended up setting off another mine and the team rescued the Robert Allen.
Robert was the owner of a construction company in Dallas, GA. He decided to evacuate his family from Dallas when he saw defeated and broken soldiers fleeing through his town. he did not really believe in the rumor of zombies but something was definitely wrong. with the clogged roads he had to walk his family to Paulding County Airport to seek the safety of the newly constructed military post. On his trek, he witnessed a fairly steady stream of air traffic leaving the air field. When he arrived, he was greeted with the business end of a machine gun. his wife and kids separated and he was thrown into a holding cell. Apparently, a small group of 15 soldiers had mutinied after the base was abandoned by the military, they then sought to set themselves up as kings. Robert tried to foment a revolt but some of the prisoners turned him in. “You have to understand, some of these guys fled all the way from Atlanta. I don’t know what they saw but they were more than happy just to be safe. More than willing to trade freedom for safety like some medieval serfs or something.” – Robert Allen As punishment they put him to use as a diversion to derail zombies from the main route to the airfield.
Robert warned the group about an ambush on the road ahead and asked the team for help in rescuing his family. Scouting the ambush site the team discovered a serpentine barrier of cars with an Humvee at the end with a mounted machine gun. The team sent Ullah, Jason Harkin, and Dr. Welks to sneak around and ambush the ambushers. They fought and killed them and then waited for a second group to relieve the first. When the second group arrived they ambushed them as well. After re-arming and armoring they went forth to scout the airfield. The team left off with trying to formulate a plan of attack.
